The dream beaches of the sunny Greek island of Corfu invite you to swim in summer temperatures during the summer months from May to October. We have visited the beaches of Corfu and put together our top 5 favorite beaches for you:
1. Marathias Beach – pure relaxation on the extensive sandy beach
Marathias Beach, about a mile long, stretches along a wide bay at the far end of the village of Marathias. You can easily reach it by car or moped, with parking available right on the road near the two local tavernas: “Fisheye” and “Perfect Ten Taverna.”
From there, it’s just a short walk to the beach. You’ll find sun loungers, parasols, and plenty of open space along the bay. We decided to settle on the right-hand side, which is quieter and has lots of room to spread out and relax. Just a heads-up, the sand gets really hot around midday, so don’t forget to bring shoes!
The sea is perfect for cooling off, with a gentle, sandy entry. You’ll hardly come across any rocks or stones in the water, making it even more enjoyable.
In the evening, the beach offers a stunning view of the sunset—definitely worth staying for.
2. Glyfada Beach – Dream beach with crystal clear water
Glyfada Beach is accessible through the village of the same name, Glyfada. A winding road takes you into the village and to several parking areas. The beach itself has a lively beach club and plenty of sun loungers with parasols.
We chose a quieter spot by walking to the left side of the bay, where the beach widens and gave us a perfect spot in the sand. The water here is shallow for a while, so you can wade out several meters before it gets deep. It’s incredibly refreshing, clean, and crystal clear. The view of the picturesque bay to the left adds to the charm. This beach is truly stunning!
3. Agios Stefanos Beach – sandy beach for splashing around and perfect for families
The beach, which shares its name with the village, is spacious and easily accessible by car or moped. We strolled past the sun loungers and parasols with our own blanket and parasol, finding a peaceful spot on the right-hand side of the bay. The sea here is very shallow, and the water is pleasantly warm – warmer than at most other beaches in Corfu. It’s perfect for swimmers of all ages.
A walk along the beach takes you to the rocky area on the right. Where the rocks meet the sea, layers of rock crumble to reveal clay-like deposits, which you can apply to your skin like lotion. This can sometimes make the water a bit cloudy, but it adds a unique touch to the experience.
One of the highlights for us was the beautiful sunset over the bay.
4. Katevasidi Beach – pure nature and tranquillity
Katevasidi Beach is about a 15-minute walk from the main road, where parking is available. If you’re on a moped, you can avoid the potholes along the footpath and drive right down to the beach. We walked part of the way and found a quiet spot once we arrived. Even in mid-August, the beach was surprisingly uncrowded, allowing us to fully enjoy the peace and quiet of the bay.
The beach is framed by sharp, steep white rocks, creating a dramatic backdrop. Be mindful when choosing your spot, as loose stones can roll down from the cliffs. The water is cool and refreshing, though slightly cloudy due to the limestone.
We stayed for the sunset, and it was truly a highlight of the day.
5. Rovinia Beach – The most turquoise beach in Corfu
Rovinia Beach is nestled in a charming little bay, surrounded by rocky cliffs. The pebble beach leads into crystal-clear, turquoise waters, and the sea floor drops off steeply. You can park above the bay for €4 a day, or for free in the village of Liapades. From there, a path with wooded steps winds down the cliffs to the beach.
Be sure to bring enough drinks with you, as it’s a bit of a trek back to the car or village. Also, keep in mind that parasols might struggle to stay put on the rocky shore. To avoid the midday heat and strong sunlight, it’s best to arrive either early or later in the day. With a little planning, you’ll have a wonderful time on this stunning turquoise beach.
When traveling, I always bring a few things that make beach days much easier – like snorkeling gear, a lightweight beach blanket or a dry bag. I’ve collected all the beach items I personally use in my Beach Day Essentials Packing List.
Our takeaway: Corfu has something for everyone, especially when it comes to its beautiful beaches. For a perfect beach vacation on the island, we recommend bringing a parasol (you can find them for around €9.95 at local supermarkets) and a beach blanket. Since the sand gets very hot around midday, bathing shoes or flip-flops are also a must. The northern part of Corfu tends to be more popular and can get a bit crowded, so we highly suggest checking out the two southernmost beaches from our top 5 favorites – Marathias Beach and Glyfada Beach.
