Krabi is the perfect destination if you want to experience as much of Southern Thailand as possible in a short amount of time – from stunning beaches and impressive temples to lively night markets and spectacular nature.
To save you time planning, this guide gives you a structured 4–5 day itinerary for Krabi, allowing you to combine the region’s highlights in a relaxed way – including beach days, excursions, and great food spots. The route is designed to minimize travel time and make everything easy to combine.
After arriving in Krabi, it’s best to take it easy and settle in. Many accommodations offer transfers, or you can easily reach Ao Nang by taxi or Grab.
We recommend the following for your first day:
Check into your accommodation
Rent a scooter – for maximum flexibility
Take your first walk around Ao Nang
Ao Nang is the tourist hub of the region, but it’s perfect for getting started – with plenty of restaurants, cafés, and shops.
Ao Nang Landmark Night Market
Here you’ll find street food, fresh smoothies, and a relaxed atmosphere – ideal for easing into Thailand and exploring in the evening. If it feels too crowded, head to the Blue Mountain Market instead. This lesser-known market is smaller but offers souvenirs, clothing, and delicious Pad Thai with live music.
Day 2: Klong Muang Beach & Sunset with a View
Klong Muang Beach
After your arrival day, things slow down. Today, you’ll leave lively Ao Nang behind and head north to the much quieter Klong Muang Beach – one of our favorite beaches in Krabi.
Even the drive is beautiful – little traffic, lots of greenery, and occasional views of the sea. Once you arrive, you’ll find a long stretch of coastline with far fewer people than Ao Nang. One of the highlights here is the natural shade provided by trees – perfect for a relaxed beach day without constantly moving around. The water is usually calm, although depending on the tide, you may encounter some rocks or coral.
Lunch – Our Tip
Plan your lunch at Ple Tam Zap Restaurant, located about 5 minutes from the beach along the main road – ideal for a relaxed break without going far.
Spend the afternoon at your own pace – swimming, reading, or simply enjoying the quiet atmosphere.
Being prepared really pays off here: water shoes, enough drinking water, and a dry bag will make your beach day much more enjoyable. Check out our Beach Day Essentials for everything you need.
Dinner with a View
In the evening, it gets even better. Around 5 PM, head to Dragon View Bar & Restaurant. Located slightly elevated, it offers stunning views over the coastline – perfect for sunset. The atmosphere is relaxed, often accompanied by live music, and the combination of good food and incredible views makes for a perfect end to the day.
Day 3: Railay & Phra Nang Beach – A True Highlight
Today is all about one of Krabi’s absolute must-sees: Railay and the famous Phra Nang Beach. To make the most of it, start early.
Getting There:
From Ao Nam Mao Pier, take a longtail boat to the floating pier at Railay East (around 100 THB per person). The ride only takes a few minutes but already feels like a small adventure. From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk across Railay to reach Phra Nang Beach – and this is where one of the most breathtaking beaches in the region awaits you: turquoise water, soft sand, and dramatic limestone cliffs rising straight out of the sea.
Why Start Early?
It’s much quieter in the morning. By midday, it gets busier and shaded spots become limited. Arriving early allows you to fully enjoy the atmosphere. You can easily spend several hours here:
Swimming
Exploring the cave at the beach
Simply soaking in the scenery
Taking a short walk through Railay Village to Railay Beach for a broader impression of the peninsula
Return:
Head back to Ao Nang via the floating pier between 4–5 PM.
Dinner in Ao Nang
Back in Ao Nang, we recommend Yim Restaurant & Cafe ร้านอาหาร ยิ้ม อ่าวนาง – authentic Thai food, relaxed atmosphere, and perfect after a long beach day.
Day 4: Temples, Local Life & Night Markets
After two beach-focused days, today is all about culture and local life. Start your day early at Wat Tham Suea (Tiger Cave Temple).
Visiting Wat Tham Suea
This temple is one of the region’s most famous sights – especially because of its incredible viewpoint. The climb is challenging (1,260 steps), but at the top, you’re rewarded with panoramic views over Krabi.
If you prefer a more relaxed experience, you can explore the lower temple area instead.
Midday
Afterward, stop by Central Mall Krabi – a great place to cool down, grab a coffee, and take a break from the heat.
Krabi Town
In the afternoon, head to Krabi Town. Often overlooked, it offers a much more local atmosphere than Ao Nang. It’s perfect for wandering through small streets, shops, and markets. Highlights include:
Krabi Night Market
Local street food stalls
Small souvenir shops
Day 5: Beach Day or Boat Tour – Your Perfect Finale
On your last day, you can choose exactly what you feel like most.
Option 1: Relaxed Beach Day
If you want to take it easy, return to Klong Muang Beach. Often, it’s only on your second visit that you truly appreciate how peaceful it is.
In the evening, enjoy a special ending at Andalay Beach Bar & Café, where fire shows are regularly held – creating a beautiful and relaxed beachfront atmosphere.
Option 2: Boat Tour & Island Hopping
If you’re up for one last adventure, this is the perfect day for a tour. Krabi is one of the best bases for island hopping in Thailand. Many tours start early and take you to stunning locations such as:
