3. Costs for Transport, Food & Entrance Fees
One of the biggest advantages of traveling in Uzbekistan is its well-developed yet highly affordable transport system. Train connections between major cities are among the most comfortable in Central Asia, making travel across the country surprisingly easy and enjoyable.
Trains & Transport Within Cities
The main Silk Road cities are very well connected. High-speed Afrosiyob trains are modern, efficient, and reduce long distances to just a few hours. Our actual ticket prices (2 people, September 2025):
- Tashkent → Bukhara: €61.11 ($66)
- Bukhara → Samarkand: €37.25 ($40)
- Samarkand → Tashkent: €30.78 ($33)
- Total for all three routes: approx. €130 ($140) for 2 people
- Conclusion: Prices vary depending on booking time and class. Tickets can be purchased online or directly at the station, for example via the official UzRailway Tickets platform.
- Taxi (city rides): approx. €1–3 ($1–3) per ride
- Metro in Tashkent: under €1 (under $1) per ride
- Bus: just a few cents
- Conclusion: Getting around cities is extremely easy and very affordable. The widely used ride-hailing app Yandex Go is especially convenient and works in all major cities.

Food & Restaurant Costs
Uzbek cuisine is heavily influenced by the Silk Road, blending flavors from Central Asia, Russia, and the Middle East. These are typical prices:
- Local dishes (e.g. plov, lagman, samsa): €2–5 ($2–5)
- Restaurant meal (mid-range): €5–10 ($5–11) per person
- Café & coffee: €1–3 ($1–3)
- Supermarket snacks & market food: very affordable
- Conclusion: Even at a higher standard, food in Uzbekistan remains significantly cheaper than in Europe. Even high-quality restaurants in Samarkand or Bukhara are very affordable by international standards.

Attractions & Entrance Fees
Another major advantage: most cultural highlights are very affordable – and sometimes even free. Typical entrance fees:
- Registan (Samarkand): approx. €3–7 ($3–8)
- Mausoleums & mosques: often €1–3 ($1–3)
- Museums: usually €1–4 ($1–4)
- Conclusion: Even visiting multiple sites per day will barely impact your overall budget.

4. Internet & eSIM in Uzbekistan
A reliable internet connection is no longer an issue in Uzbekistan – especially in cities like Tashkent, Samarkand, or Bukhara, where mobile networks are fast and dependable. An eSIM is therefore the easiest way to stay online right after landing, without the hassle of buying a local SIM card.
Our recommendation: Saily eSIM
Saily’s eSIM offers flexible data packages for travelers. For most trips, a mid-sized data plan is more than enough, as you’ll often have access to Wi-Fi in hotels and cafés along the way.
- 3 GB for 30 days – $9.99
This package is ideal for navigation (e.g. Yandex Go), Google Maps, finding restaurants, and using social media on the go. For a typical 7–10 day trip through Uzbekistan, it’s usually completely sufficient. Alternatively, the 5 GB package ($13.99) is worth considering if you work remotely or upload videos while traveling.
Tip: Use code WAVES15 for 15% off your next travel eSIM.
5. Money-Saving Tips for Your Uzbekistan Trip
With these tips, you can optimize your budget without missing out on experiences:
- Use trains instead of flights: Fast, affordable, and significantly more relaxed – and make sure to book your train tickets early (especially Afrosiyob trains, which tend to sell out quickly)
- Use Yandex Go instead of negotiating taxis: Simple, transparent, and extremely budget-friendly
- Walk shorter distances: Many sights are closer together than you might expect
- Choose local restaurants: Often better and more affordable than touristy spots – but look for at least 150+ Google reviews to ensure consistent quality (and a happy stomach!) and be mindful with street food (only eat where there’s high turnover and lots of locals)
- Carry cash: Especially important for smaller shops, الأسواق, and bazaars
- Withdraw money from ATMs: Usually offers better exchange rates than currency exchange offices
- Negotiate politely in bazaars: Discounts of 20–40% are often realistic
- Book your eSIM in advance: Saves time and often money once you arrive
- Pack light: Saves time and reduces travel stress (for this, check out our Uzbekistan Packing List: 20 Things That Will Truly Improve Your Trip)
- Use an interactive Google My Map: Keep all locations in one place to plan your route efficiently and get the most out of your trip
