From iconic highlights like Ao Phra Nang around Railay to quieter stretches of coastline, you’ll find it all here – lively beaches, hidden coves, and relaxed sunset spots. To help you quickly find the right beach for your trip, here are my personal favorites in Krabi:

Here are five beaches around Krabi and Railay that stood out to us – with honest insights, tips on how to get there, and advice on when to visit:

1. Ao Phra Nang Beach

• Highlight: Dreamlike bay with dramatic limestone scenery
• Best for: Postcard-perfect beaches, sunsets, and unique photo spots

Ao Phra Nang Beach is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Thailand. The combination of turquoise water, soft white sand, and towering limestone cliffs creates an unforgettable setting. Despite its popularity, the crowds tend to spread out surprisingly well – especially if you walk a bit further along the beach. Around midday, it can get busier and shaded areas are limited. In the afternoon, however, the atmosphere becomes much more relaxed. The beach is particularly stunning in the evening – when the sunset bathes the cliffs in warm light, creating a truly magical atmosphere.

How to get there: The easiest way is by longtail boat from Ao Nam Mao Pier to the floating pier at East Railay (approx. 100 THB per person, one way). From there, it’s about a 10-minute walk.

2. Klong Muang Beach

• Highlight: Quiet, spacious beach with relaxed beach bars
• Best for: Peaceful beach days and sunsets

Klong Muang Beach is one of the most laid-back beaches in the Krabi region. The long stretch of sand offers plenty of quiet areas and natural shade from trees – perfect for a relaxed beach day. We especially loved the far end of the beach towards Andalay Beach Bar & Café. It’s noticeably quieter, less touristy, and overall very peaceful. The café also hosts a fire show most evenings around 7 pm – adding to the unique beach atmosphere.

3. Tonsai Beach

• Highlight: Alternative, laid-back beach with a climbing vibe
• Best for: A quieter alternative to Railay

Tonsai Beach feels much more relaxed and alternative compared to nearby Railay (Rai Leh). It’s especially popular among climbers and has a very distinct, chilled-out atmosphere.

Good to know: The water here isn’t quite as turquoise as at other beaches, and there are some rocks in the sea, which can make swimming a bit less ideal. Longtail boats also pass by occasionally, adding some background noise.

How to get there: Reachable on foot via a jungle trail from Railay West (approx. 15–20 minutes, uneven in parts) or by boat when the sea is calm.

4. Noppharat Thara Beach

• Highlight: Long, local beach with plenty of space
• Best for: Walks, sunsets, and a relaxed atmosphere

Noppharat Thara Beach is a wide, expansive beach that’s especially popular with locals. It feels much more authentic and less busy than Ao Nang. At low tide, the beach becomes particularly interesting – you can walk far out into the sea and enjoy long, peaceful strolls. There are also plenty of shaded spots under trees, making it ideal for a break from the sun.

Good to know: Many boats depart from the nearby Noppharat Thara Pier, which can create some noise depending on where you are. If you walk a bit further away from the pier, it quickly becomes much quieter.

5. Ao Nang Beach

• Highlight: Central main beach with full infrastructure
• Best for: Sunsets, restaurants, and short stops

Ao Nang Beach is the most well-known and busiest beach in Krabi. You’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafés, and accommodations right along the promenade – perfect if you want everything within walking distance. The beach itself is scenic, especially with the limestone cliffs in the distance and the beautiful sunsets in the evening. However, it can feel quite busy – with boats, visitors, and limited shade during peak hours. Still, it’s worth a visit – particularly for sunset or as a starting point for boat tours.

Essential Beach Tips for Krabi

Keep these tips in mind to make your beach days in Krabi as relaxing as possible:

• Water shoes: Especially useful at rocky beaches like Tonsai Beach.
