The water at Aquarium Beach is so clear you can see every pebble on the seafloor. Grab a mask and snorkel, capture a few epic drone shots, and enjoy one of the Albanian Riviera’s most beautiful beaches. The light is at its best until around 4:00 PM. 2. Cliff jump into the sea at Aquarium Beach

The rocky cliffs surrounding Aquarium Beach aren’t just photogenic – they’re also the perfect natural diving platform. If you’re brave enough to jump, you’ll be rewarded with an adrenaline rush and a refreshing plunge into brilliant turquoise water.

3. Take a boat tour along the Albanian Riviera

Many of Albania’s most spectacular coastal gems are nearly impossible to reach by land – hidden coves, sea caves, dramatic cliffs, and secluded beaches. 4. Watch the sunset at Pulëbardha Beach

Pulëbardha Beach faces west, making it one of the best sunset spots on the Albanian Riviera. As the sun drops toward the Ionian Sea, golden light reflects across the turquoise water, creating an incredibly peaceful atmosphere. Sometimes the best travel moments are simply sitting back and taking it all in.

5. Explore a hidden bay by paddleboard or kayak

Albania’s coastline is made for paddling adventures. Renting a SUP or kayak in Himarë allows you to discover secluded beaches that are inaccessible by car. My favorite route? Paddle to Filikuri Beach.

6. Dip your hand into the icy Blue Eye spring

The famous Blue Eye remains around 50°F (10°C) year-round. Even if swimming isn’t allowed, dipping your hand into the crystal-clear spring is a refreshing experience you’ll remember long after your trip.

7. Relax in the Benja Hot Springs near Përmet

Warm mineral-rich water between 79–90°F (26–32°C), surrounded by mountains and an 18th-century Ottoman stone bridge – the Benja Hot Springs are among Albania’s most relaxing natural attractions. 8. Hike down to Filikuri Beach

Reaching Filikuri Beach isn’t exactly an easy stroll – it’s an adventure you’ll earn. The steep trail winds through fragrant Mediterranean vegetation before revealing an incredible turquoise cove hidden beneath towering cliffs. Good balance, sturdy footwear, and a head for heights are essential.

9. Stand inside Kruja Castle and reflect on Skanderbeg’s legacy

Kruja is where Albania’s national hero, Skanderbeg, successfully defended the city against three Ottoman sieges during the 15th century. Standing atop the castle walls overlooking the valley, it’s easy to understand why this place holds such deep significance for Albanians.

10. Wander through Kruja Bazaar and bring home a handmade souvenir

The historic Kruja Bazaar is one of Albania’s most beautiful traditional markets. Narrow cobblestone streets, wooden stalls, local artisans, handmade rugs, and leather goods make every visit memorable. A souvenir from here tells a story long after your trip is over.

11. Photograph Berat’s Old Town at sunrise

12. Admire the view from Gjirokastër Castle

Towering above Albania’s famous “Stone City,” Gjirokastër Castle offers one of the Balkans’ most unforgettable panoramas. From the fortress walls you’ll overlook gray slate rooftops, winding streets, and the surrounding mountains stretching into the distance.

13. Climb the Pyramid of Tirana

The Pyramid of Tirana is one of Albania’s most fascinating landmarks – a former communist monument transformed into a vibrant cultural and youth center. Climb the sloping exterior for a unique perspective over the capital.

14. Visit Butrint at sunset

As one of Albania’s most important archaeological sites, Butrint blends Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian history on a peaceful peninsula surrounded by a tranquil lagoon. Golden hour adds an unforgettable atmosphere to this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

15. Explore Rozafa Castle in Shkodër

16. Enjoy fresh seafood at Fishbar Saranda

If you’re visiting Sarandë and skip Fishbar Saranda, you’re missing out. Fresh linguine, beautifully prepared seafood platters, grilled shrimp – everything we ordered was outstanding. 17. Start your morning with a traditional Albanian byrek

Byrek is Albania’s classic breakfast – flaky, freshly baked pastry filled with spinach, cheese, or meat. Every town has at least one great bakery serving it fresh from the oven. Simply walk in, point to the one that looks best, and enjoy.

18. Share a glass of Albanian raki with locals

Raki is much more than Albania’s national spirit – it’s a symbol of hospitality. If someone offers you a glass, you’re being welcomed like family. It’s one of the most authentic cultural experiences you’ll have in Albania. Just maybe don’t accept your first glass on an empty stomach.

19. Grab an ice cream along the Sarandë promenade

Sarandë truly comes alive after sunset. Strolling along the waterfront with a scoop of ice cream from Baci A Tutti in hand is one of those simple travel moments that ends up becoming a favorite memory. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a vacation unforgettable.

20. Have dinner at a family-run Albanian restaurant

Some of my favorite meals in Albania weren’t in trendy restaurants – they were in family-run places where hospitality comes naturally. Whether it’s the beautiful garden at Bar Restorant Gjirokaster Rrapi or the homemade jams served at breakfast at Hotel Nasho Vruho in Berat, these places offer something chain restaurants simply can’t replicate. Don’t be surprised if a complimentary appetizer or dessert suddenly appears on your table.

21. Go rafting through Osumi Canyon

Osumi Canyon is one of Albania’s most spectacular natural wonders, but experiencing it from the water is something entirely different. Rafting takes you past waterfalls, towering limestone cliffs, and narrow canyon passages that can’t be appreciated from above. 22. Take the ferry across Lake Koman

Towering cliffs, emerald-green water, and untouched mountain scenery make the ferry across Lake Koman one of Europe’s most breathtaking boat journeys. Rather than feeling like a tourist attraction, it feels like discovering one of Albania’s best-kept secrets.

23. Spend a day in Theth, deep in the Albanian Alps

If you want to experience Albania beyond its beaches, head to Theth. Dramatic mountain landscapes, waterfalls, traditional stone houses, and complete tranquility make this one of the country’s most rewarding destinations. One day here completely changes your perspective on Albania.

24. Pull over simply because the mountain views are too beautiful

Driving between Sarandë and Berat, you’ll repeatedly come across landscapes that seem to appear out of nowhere – vast valleys, rugged mountain ranges, tiny villages, and winding roads with barely another car in sight. Some of the best travel memories happen when you stop without having planned to.

25. Watch the sunset from Lëkurësi Castle above Sarandë

If I had to recommend just one sunset in Albania, this would be it. From Lëkurësi Castle, you’ll overlook Sarandë’s sweeping bay, the Ionian Sea, nearby islands, and – on clear days – even the island of Corfu. As the sun sinks below the horizon, the entire coastline glows in shades of gold. Arrive at least one hour before sunset to secure parking, order a drink, and simply enjoy the view.
