The suspension bridge spanning the Osum River is, in my opinion, the most beautiful and photogenic viewpoint in all of Berat. From here, you can admire both sides of the city at once – the iconic white houses of the Mangalem Quarter with their hundreds of windows on one side and the historic Gorica Quarter on the other. Nowhere else in Berat offers such a complete and breathtaking perspective.

Photography Tips:

• The historic facades look beautiful throughout the day. Early morning and late afternoon bathe the buildings in warm golden light, while midday creates striking contrast and vibrant colors.
• If you’re planning to photograph Berat Castle as well, don’t miss the viewpoints from the fortress walls overlooking the Old Town. On the opposite side, the panorama from Kisha e Shën Triadhës (Holy Trinity Church) across the valley is equally spectacular.

2. Aquarium Beach – Turquoise Water That Looks Almost Unreal

Aquarium Beach is one of the most photogenic beaches along the entire Albanian Riviera. Two long rocky ridges frame the bay and stretch far into the sea, creating crystal-clear water that glows in multiple shades of turquoise. The limestone formations themselves are just as captivating as the water, making this one of Albania’s most rewarding coastal photography locations.

Photography Tips:

• One of my favorite compositions is a teamwork shot – one person flying the drone from the rocks while the other swims through the turquoise water below. It adds scale and brings the image to life.
• If you don’t have a drone, climb onto the surrounding rock formations. From there you’ll enjoy an incredible panoramic view of the entire bay, with the rocky foreground naturally framing your shot.
• Right where you enter the water, you’ll also find a small cave tucked into the cliffs – an often-overlooked but fantastic subject for both photos and videos.

3. Kruja Bazaar – Narrow Streets Filled with Color

The historic Kruja Bazaar is one of the most photogenic marketplaces in Albania. Its narrow covered streets, colorful market stalls, local artisans at work, and traditional wooden storefronts create endless photography opportunities. Look up, and towering cliffs rise above the market, adding even more drama to every frame.

Photography Tips:

• Visit early in the morning when the bazaar is still quiet and soft sunlight filters beautifully through the narrow streets.
• Another excellent photography spot is Kruja Castle, which can be captured from several impressive angles as you explore the fortress grounds.

4. Potami Beach – The Riviera’s Most Vibrant Turquoise Water

Potami Beach in Himarë has some of the most intensely turquoise water I’ve seen anywhere along the Albanian coast. The vibrant blue tones almost look enhanced, while the rugged coastline in the background adds natural depth and balance to every composition.

Photography Tips:

• Around midday, the sun hits the water at the perfect angle, making the turquoise colors appear even more vibrant.
• Later in the day, the beach transforms into a fantastic sunset location that’s perfect for both photography and cinematic video footage.

5. Lëkurësi Castle – Albania’s Ultimate Sunset Photography Spot

If there’s one place in Albania you should visit for sunset photography, it’s Lëkurësi Castle overlooking Sarandë. From the fortress, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across Sarandë Bay, the nearby islands, and, on clear days, all the way to Corfu. As the sun sinks into the Ionian Sea, the coastline is bathed in golden light, creating one of the most unforgettable panoramas in the country.

Photography Tips:

• Use the castle walls and the lively café terrace in the foreground to frame your panoramic shots. It adds depth, atmosphere, and a stronger sense of place.
• Arrive at least one hour before sunset, as the parking lot fills up quickly and you’ll want plenty of time to find the perfect composition.

6. Porto Palermo Castle – The Albanian Riviera’s Ultimate Drone Shot

Perched on a small peninsula and surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise water, Porto Palermo Castle is one of the most spectacular drone photography locations in Albania. From above, you’ll capture the beautifully preserved Ottoman fortress, the vibrant blue bay, sailboats, and jet skis carving across the water – a scene that’s every bit as stunning as it looks in travel magazines.

Photography Tips:

• A drone shot is the clear winner here – especially on calm days when the deep-blue water looks almost mirror-like.
• Don’t skip ground-level photography, either. The castle framed by the sea in the foreground creates one of Albania’s most iconic coastal images.

7. Pyramid of Tirana – Albania’s Urban Side

The Pyramid of Tirana is one of the country’s most unusual landmarks – a communist-era monument that has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and youth center. Its raw concrete architecture, colorful murals, and climbable exterior make it one of Albania’s most unique photography locations.

Photography Tips:

• Climb to the top of the pyramid for an unusual perspective over downtown Tirana that’s still relatively unknown.
• Also an excellent place to capture striking urban aerial footage.
• Visit around blue hour, when the building’s lighting creates a completely different atmosphere.

9. Mountain Landscapes & the Suspension Bridge Between Sarandë and Berat

The drive between Sarandë and Berat is full of unexpected scenery. Wide valleys, dramatic mountain ranges, and hidden roadside gems appear around nearly every bend – from grazing sheep to the Ura e Wałęsatit Suspension Bridge, tucked away in a lush green landscape. If you enjoy road-trip photography, this route rewards anyone willing to slow down and stop whenever a beautiful scene unfolds.

Photography Tips:

• Don’t hesitate to pull over whenever the landscape catches your eye. Some of Albania’s best photographs aren’t famous landmarks – they’re spontaneous roadside moments.
• The suspension bridge itself makes an incredible subject. Standing on the bridge (if you’re comfortable with heights) with the surrounding mountains in the background creates the perfect Albanian adventure photo.

10. Pulëbardha Beach – The Rock in the Sea

Pulëbardha Beach stands out from every other bay along the Albanian Riviera thanks to one remarkable feature – a massive rock rising from the middle of the turquoise water. It creates a natural focal point that looks incredible from both the beach and the air. Combined with the bay’s west-facing orientation, the warm evening light turns the entire scene into a photographer’s dream.

Photography Tips:

• Drone: Capture the rock centered in the turquoise bay with the coastline stretching into the background for one of the Riviera’s most striking aerial compositions.
• From the beach: Use the rock as a foreground element while framing the coastline or beachfront restaurant behind it for added depth.
